In case a person is looking for an opportunity to start his business in the food sector, that may range from activities like food packaging, distribution, manufacturing to even food processing, he will be required to get a registration from Food Safety and Standard Authority of India commonly known as FSSAI.

The FSSAI Act of 2006 has laid down certain rules and regulations that the businesses need to follow. The primary purpose of FSSAI is to monitor that the businesses are following the laid out rules and regulations. The validity of the License ranges from 1 year to 5 years.

As soon as the license is about to expire, it is important the FBO (Food Business Operator) gets their license renewed. The reason being the working without a license will attract heavy fines and penalties. Moreover, if your business gets terminated it will also have an effect on the sales, manufacturing as well as the brand name. It is important to remember that you have to get it renewed at least 30 days before the date of expiry. The penalty imposed on the defaulting party is Rs. 100 per day.

Online Renewal of FSSAI License which has expired

In order to get the FSSAI License renewed, you need to follow three simple steps:

STEP 1: As per the eligibility of the food business operator you need to file either Form A or B. they consist of the business activities of the respective FBO. Along with that the applicant also needs to file a self - attested declaration. In the said declaration, they need to address the compliance along with the guidelines of the Food Safety and Standard Act. All the required documents also need to be submitted with these forms.

STEP 2: The next step is related to verification. The respective authorities will then examine your submitted application. If they feel the that they need to conduct an investigation, they will order a notice for the same. The purpose behind verification if to ensure that the details provided by the applicant are not only accurate and authentic but also true to his knowledge.

STEP 3:In the third and last step, the FBO will be issued a food license. This issuance of the food license is based on the results of verification. It usually takes a maximum period of sixty days for the FSSAI License to reach the applicant. In case they don’t receive it within 60 days, then they are free to question the authorities for the same.
