What is the FSSAI License:


FSSAI or the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is an organization which is responsible for the monitoring and the governing of food business operators. This is done for all different kinds of businesses. This FSSAI license is a must for all the Food Business Operators (FBOs) across India and lays down all the rules and regulations for the running of these businesses. The main aim of the standard is to keep a quality check on all the various food products by monitoring and governing them. It protects the food products from all kinds of adulterations and sale of sub-standard products. 


Talking of the categories, this license is categorised into three different types. These are mentioned as follows. 

  1. Central license
  2. State License
  3. Basic Registration


FSSAI Central License 


All Food operators have to register themselves under the Central government for the issuance of the Central Food License. These may include as those of Importers, 100% Export Oriented Units, large manufacturers, operators in the  Central Government agencies, airports, seaports etc. which have a base all over the country. The FBOs which operate in more than 1 state, they need to have a central license in their head office and is generally for those firms whose annual turnover is greater than 20 crores. Another thing to be kept in mind is that the license can have tenure from 1 to 5 years within which it can be issued or renewed.


FSSAI Central License Eligibility

These are the following units which are eligible for the issuance of the license. 

  1. Dairy production units such as milk chilling units, which are equipped for the handling and the pROCess.
  2. Extraction and refining comPANies which include oil expeller units.
  3. Slaughtering and meat pROCessing units.
  4. Food pROCessing units such as labellers and repackers and proprietary foods.
  5. Units which are 100% export-oriented.


The registration pROCess

For the FSSAI registration pROCedure to be initiated, the FORM A i.e. is the application has to be submitted to the food and safety department. On successful acceptance of the application, the body issues a registration certificate with the registration number and the photo of the applicant after which you can practise your services.
